Disclaimer – I am an alpha/beta reader for the Alana Khan and received a free ARC digital download of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly, from reading this book I can confirm that I have not read a book like this previously. I really enjoyed how engaging the storyline and the characters were. Although the general concept of the book might be a little hard for some people to read, I liked how it was tastefully written. I did receive a warning prior to reading this book about the more ‘trigger-some’ aspects of the storyline which did make me a little wary, but I’m glad I still gave it a go and found it wasn’t entirely how I expected. This was further improved by the main character, Voxx, and his gentle disposition.
It became impossible not to root for Voxx throughout the book, particularly as he is so relatable. I enjoyed being able to see things from his perspective and his thought processes.
I appreciated Victoria’s resistance and strength throughout the book, all too often these sort of romance books portray women in a way I don’t believe is relatable, but I didn’t have that issue with this book. The more I read, the more I became attached to the character of Voxx and as a result found Victoria’s hatred and anger towards him a little frustrating (maybe a little misplaced as I’m sure these are normal reactions given the situation and the fact that she can’t read Voxx’s thoughts like we can).
I enjoyed the descriptiveness of and setting of the scenes and was really disappointed when I came to the end of the book, just because I couldn’t continue with the story and find out what Victoria’s decision might be. I’m excited to start reading Voxx 2 and 3 and see where the story takes me!
